Memory lapses, word-finding difficulty, and trouble concentrating have many causes. Depression, anxiety, poor sleep, thyroid disease, vitamin deficiency, medication side effects, and alcohol can all impair cognition — and all of those are treatable.
Evaluation distinguishes reversible contributors from patterns that warrant neurological referral, formal neuropsychological testing, or imaging.
Depression, sleep disorders, medications, alcohol, thyroid problems, and vitamin deficiencies are reviewed first.
Brief structured screening helps establish a baseline and track changes over time.
Neurology, neuropsychological testing, or imaging is recommended when findings suggest a primary neurologic cause.
Schedule an evaluation if memory or thinking changes are new, worsening, noticed by family, or affecting safety, driving, medication management, or finances.
