Understanding this condition

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in adults often looks less like hyperactivity and more like chronic disorganization, missed deadlines, difficulty starting tasks, forgetfulness, and mental restlessness. Many adults were never assessed as children and assume the difficulty is a personal failing.

A proper ADHD assessment reviews symptoms since childhood, current function at work and home, and other conditions that imitate ADHD — including anxiety, depression, sleep deprivation, and thyroid problems.

How this condition is evaluated and treated

Structured diagnostic assessment

Symptoms are reviewed across settings and across time, since ADHD requires evidence of long-standing difficulty rather than a recent stressful period.

Ruling out imitators

Untreated anxiety, depression, insomnia, and substance use can all produce attention problems and are addressed before or alongside ADHD treatment.

Treatment and monitoring

Stimulant and non-stimulant options are discussed with their risks and monitoring requirements, including blood pressure and heart rate checks where relevant.

Yes. Many adults are diagnosed later in life, though the assessment must find evidence that symptoms began in childhood.

Is medication the only treatment?

No. Structure, routines, and behavioral strategies matter, and some adults choose non-medication approaches or non-stimulant options.

Are controlled medications prescribed by telehealth?

Prescribing of controlled medications follows current federal and Florida requirements, which may include an in-person visit. This is reviewed at your evaluation.
